Sylt, Hamburg - Alfred Paulmann
Alfred Paulmann (1884-1964) was a German marine painter who studied at the Elberfeld Art School. Between 1902 and 1906 he worked on commission, primarily on marine subjects, honing his technique. He later moved to Sylt where he worked with H. Kocke and E. Schloemann. There, this fine oil on canvas was completed, which is dated and signed lower right with location named, in original frame. This dymanic work presents three different vessles, and captures the choppy seas superlatively. Paulmann’s work is present today in the Hamburg Museum of Art and the Berlin Museum of Art.
