Boats in the Harbor - Charles Fouqueray
Charles Fouqueray (1869-1956) was born in Le Mans, France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under Alendandre Cabanel and Fernand Cormon, emerging as a superb Impressionist painter of the time. In 1908 he was named Peintre de la Marine (Painter of the Navy), a prestigous honor! The following year he won the Prix Rosa Boheur, and later, in 1914, the First Prix de L'Indochine, two significant art prizes, in recognition of his outstanding works. This misty oil on canvas is signed lower right, is in the original frame, and shows a gallery label on verso.
