Fishing Boat - William Bond
William Bond (1833-1926) was a colorful character - an English painter, born in Liverpool. He was a fine artist as well, having shifted from a pre-Raphaelist genre to a J.W. Turner classical style. He added “Julius Cesar” to his name, giving rise to the nickname
“Alphabet Bond”. He studied at Stoneyhurst, a Jesuit College in the Ribble Valley, and was then lucky enough to be apprenticed to Thomas Griffiths, a well-known painter and restorer of ancient works. From 1898 he exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute. Bond is one of the most well known Liverpool artists of the 19th Century, and for good reason.
