Slippery Rock, Coast of Devon - Edgar Longstaffe
Classical beauty presented by English artist Edgar Lonstaffe (1852-1933). He was known for his landscapes of England and the Scottish Highlands, and had a fine eye for the details of these beautiful environs. This painting, with frontal name plate and title plaque, is very much in that vein and retains the beautiful original frame as well. Longstaffe exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Hibernian Institute. Interestingly, he worked for years for Raphael Tuck and Sons, painting English and Scottish landscapes for the prpose of reproduction for postcards, and was considered the trailblazer for the early days of the “art picture” postcard.
