Montreal - Marcel Dupont
Artist Marcel Dupont (1907-1954) was French, born in Paris. In 1938 he began exhibiting at the Salon des Independants and the Salon d’Automne, largely specializing in Bretagne landscapes. However, during WWII, he enlisted in the Moroccan fusilliers regiment - part of the French Army. In 1946, at nearly 40, he settled in Montreal, where he opened a studio and executed many excellent works. He used Old town Montreal as inspiration - this painting is one of those from this period. His work is displayed in nearly all Canadian museums. Note the post-impressionist/naif style which was characteristic of his later works. It is oil on board, signed lower left.
