Post Impressionist Landscape - Edouard Bernaut
This post impressionist landscape is by Edouard Bernaut (1890 - 1981). It is oil on canvas signed lower left in the original frame. Of French heritage but born in Romania, Bernaut attended l'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he studied under the landscape masters of the time such as Jules Adler and Montezin. He exhibited at Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Francais. He was always the rebel, even for an artist - he shunned the Paris Salon, which was considered very conservative. Nontheless, in 1924 he was awarded honorable mention and in 1927 he received the bronze medal from this institution. This work is in its original frame with label on verso titled and with artists accomplishments. Of stunning and verdant greens and blues, this work is striking, and the frame which sets it off is elegant and unique, custom made for the painting.
