Vertou Flowers - Edouard Bernaut
Colorful, masterful, desirable! This work by Eduard Bernaut (1890-1951) is oil on board, signed lower left, under glass, and carries the loaction inscription on verso. Of French heritage but born in Romania, Bernaut attended l”Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris where he studied under the landscape masters of the time such as Jules Adler and Montezin. He exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Francais. Always the rebel (even for an artist) he shunned the Paris Salon, which was considered very conservative. However, in 1924 he was awarded honorable mention, and in 1927 he received the bronze medal. This impressionist work is simple in subject but captivating in execution, in frame original to the piece.
Measurements with frame 23”X20, without frame 17.5”X14.5”. Condition: Very good.
