Coastal Landscape - George Boyle
It’s always a treat when we find a George Boyle (1842-1930) which we have occationally done over the years. Boyle was an English landscape artist, respectfully referred to as the “English Carot” due to the influence of the Barbizon School on his work. He painted “en plein air”, creating that atmospheric feel in his work, which this painting possesses notably. He began exhibiting in 1884; his works were featured at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Society of Oil Painters. Today, his paintings can be found in the Williams Morris Gallery, the National Gallery of Ireland, and the Princeton University Art Museum. Oil on canvas, signed lower left in original frame.
