This Emile Boyer (1877-1948) oil on canvas is signed lower right and sits in original frame. Born in Paris, France, he grew up in impoverished circumstances, but has the good fortune to meet Utrillo and Modigliani, who encouraged his budding artistic talents. He was extremely gifted and studied religiously; later becoming so respected as to have exhibited at the Salon d’Automme and the Salon des Tuilleries. This bright and charming work is on the smaller side, suitable for hanging in any location. Highly collected, some of his paintings are present today in the personal collections of Paul Guillaume and Wilhelme Uhde - the two most important authorities in impressionist / naive works
