Born in Romania but living in France by the age of 6, Edouard Bernaut (1890-1981) showed early artistic talent and was enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he studied under Jules Adler and Montezin. He exhibited at the Salon d’Automne as a reaction to the most conservative Paris Salon, and helped elevate it as the center for innovation in painting and sculpture by the late 1920’s. He also exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he won Honorable Mention in 1924 and a Bronze Medal in 1927. Today, his works are highly collectable due to his “soft” impressionist style, such as this truly beautiful example, oil on board, signed lower left in original frame, label and exhibition plaque on verso.

Dimensions: 24"X18" framed, 21"X14" unframed

Condition: Good
