Provence Market - Merio Ameglio
This lively marketplace scene by Merio Ameglio (1897-1970) is oil on canvas, signed lower left, in it’s original frame. Born in San Remo, Italy, Ameglio developed artistically on the French Riveria, just a short distance from his home town. In 1938 he moved to Paris where he settled in Montmartre, in the bustling art scene. He opened a studio in Rue Clauzel which was frequented by the avant garde artists of the day, including Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon and Van Dongen. He exhibited at the Paris Salons where in 1938 he received an Honorable Mention. Known for his depictions of monuments, market scenes and landmarks of France, today is works are present in major collections around the world.
