Paris Seine - Narcisse Guilbert
Born of modest means in Bouville, Narcisse Guilbert (1878-1942) showed precocious artistic talent and managed to get accepted at just 17 years old at the prestigious Ecole des Beauz Arts in Rouen. He later studied at the Free Academy of Delaitre as well. In 1910 he moved to Brittany, often visiting Partis where he continurally draws inspiration from the stunning city. His trips to Etretat also inspired beautiful seashore and maritime scenes, In 1920 he exhibited in Rue Marboeuf, and in 1969 the Galerie Watteau held and extensive exhibition of his work. He is considered one of the best Rouen painters. This example draws the viewer into the city of Paris with it’s unmistakable skyline. A stunning piece, it is oil on canvas, signed lower right.
