This oil on board painting is titled and dated from 1933 on verso. Charles Verbrugge (1877-1975) was Belgian, born in beautiful Brugges. He was a self-taught artist who moved to Paris in 1905 settling in Montmartre. He socialized with Monet, Renoir, Degas, Picasso and Utrillo at the famous "Lapine Agile" Cabaret. He was influenced by Kees Van Dugan, and considered among the best European impressionist of his time. It is signed lower left in original frame. This work is quite colorful, the photos do not do it justice, and the brush strokes are heavy, bringing light and depth to the piece.
