Thames - Arthur Gordon Meadows
This richly colored and calm scene of the Thames is by Arthur Gordon Meadows (1866-1973). Oil on canvas, it is signed and dated 1884, lower left. Inscription on verso written by the artist describing the exact location, in original frame. Meadows was British artist from a family with rich artistic heritage. In 1861 at age 18 he exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists. Between 1862-1885, twenty-two of his works hung in the Society. Also exhibited at the Royal Institution. At present one of his works is in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
Measurements without frame 19.5”X13.5”, with frame 24”X18”.
