William Sydney Cooper 1854 to 1927 trained at the Canterbury art school of his great uncle Thomas Sydney Cooper. Like his mentor Cooper was a British landscape artist best known for paintings of the countryside around Kent. He was quite successful exhibiting at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British artists Suffolk Street galleries and the Royal watercolor Society . He was also a gifted musician and took part in local musical events. He was known for his beautiful illustrations of cattle which were his specialty and also of sheep. This oil on canvas is dated 1918 and is signed on the lower left. It is in a stunning original frame.
