Fabulous female artist Elizabeth Hide (1876-1951) was English, born in Cornwall. She moved to London in 1899 to expand her craft, exhibiting in the Suffolk Street Galleries. During WWI she served as an illustrator to the War Department, and in 1921 she was awarded a commission by the Department of the Navy to paint the beauty of the Thames river in her unique and powerful style, Her works from that period are most coveted - like this piece, Boats on the Thames. it is oil on canvas, signed lower left, in originla frame.
