Raised in poverty and challenged to make a living as an American impressionist painter, he moved to Paris where he legally changed his name to Andre Gisson and began a long and accomplished career as an artist. His work is present in the Triton Museum of Art, and in many prestigious private collections, such as those of Lyndon B. Johnson and W. Somersest Maugham.
